Why Do inReach Devices Not Use AA Batteries?

Garmin inReach® satellite communicators can only be powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Regular AA batteries do not meet the necessary power requirements for an inReach device.

Reasons Why Rechargeable Lithium-ion Batteries are Used to Power an inReach

  • They last longer than AA batteries
  • Have a very low self-discharge rate
  • Provide constant voltage during use
  • Provide sufficient power to communicate with Iridium satellites
