Setting up the VIRB Remote Feature on an Automotive Device

The VIRB action cameras can be controlled remotely by many Garmin handheld and wrist-worn devices.

Note: A software update may be required to utilize the remote function and is highly recommended before following the steps below. See the Software section under your device in Support Center for instructions.

Once the ability to control the VIRB is set, the device can be paired to the VIRB. Up to 6 VIRB Action Cameras can be controlled by one remote at a time.

All the VIRB Action Cameras are Compatible with the Devices Listed Below:

Pairing an Automotive Device with the VIRB® or VIRB® Elite

Your automotive device device uses ANT technology when connecting to the VIRB devices which allows them to send data wirelessly, similar to Bluetooth. The automotive device can serve as a remote control once paired with the VIRB Action Camera. 

On the VIRB / VIRB Elite:

  1. Press Mode until Settings is selected
  2. Highlight Remote using the Up or Down Arrows
  3. Press the OK button
  4. Turn Remote on

On the Automotive Device:

  1. Touch Apps
  2. Touch VIRB Remote

The automotive device will automatically search for the VIRB. The VIRB can be remotely controlled through the app on the automotive device once connected. To take a picture, touch the camera icon. To start/stop recording, touch the recording bar on the automotive device screen.


Pairing an Automotive Device with a VIRB® X or VIRB® XE

Your automotive device device uses ANT technology when connecting to the VIRB devices which allows them to send data wirelessly, similarly to Bluetooth. The automotive device can serve as a remote control once paired with the VIRB Action Camera.

On the VIRB X / XE:

  1. Hold Up Arrow for Menu
  2. Highlight Remote using the Up or Down Arrows
  3. Press the OK button
  4. Turn Remote on

On the Automotive Device:

  1. Touch Apps
  2. Touch VIRB Remote

The automotive device will automatically search for the VIRB. The VIRB can be remotely controlled through the app on the automotive device once connected. To take a picture, touch the camera icon. To start/stop recording, touch the recording bar on the automotive device screen.


Pairing an Automotive Device with a VIRB® Ultra 30

Your automotive device device uses ANT technology when connecting to the VIRB devices which allows them to send data wirelessly, similar to Bluetooth. The automotive device can serve as a remote control once paired with the VIRB Action Camera.

On the VIRB ULTRA 30:

  1. Touch the menu button
  2. Touch Wireless
  3. Touch Remote
  4. Touch Status to turn the option on

On the Automotive Device:

  1. Touch Apps
  2. Touch VIRB Remote

The automotive device will automatically search for the VIRB. The VIRB can be remotely controlled through the app on the automotive device once connected. To take a picture, touch the camera icon. To start/stop recording, touch the recording bar on the automotive device screen.


Pairing an Automotive Device with a VIRB® 360

Your automotive device device uses ANT technology when connecting to the VIRB devices which allows them to send data wirelessly, similar to Bluetooth. The automotive device can serve as a remote control once paired with the VIRB Action Camera.

On the VIRB 360:

  1. Press Power to bring up the menu
  2. Press the right arrow to scroll to Wireless
  3. Press OK
  4. Press the right arrow to scroll to Remote
  5. Press OK
  6. Press OK to toggle the remote on and off

On the Automotive Device:

  1. Touch Apps
  2. Touch VIRB Remote

The automotive device will automatically search for the VIRB. The VIRB can be remotely controlled through the app on the automotive device once connected. To take a picture, touch the camera icon. To start/stop recording, touch the recording bar on the automotive device screen.
