Difficulty Steering After Installing Shadow Drive: Standard and Verado Fittings
Fluid flow restriction is due to improper valve or NPT fitting installation. Check the fittings used in the installation of the Shadow Drive on a Verado system, and verify that the correct fittings are installed.
NOTE: Do not use Teflon tape to seal any hydraulic fittings on the Shadow Drive valve, as it could deteriorate and block the fluid flow inside the Shadow Drive.
Standard Application:
Shadow Drive devices do not come with adapter fittings. If the application requires fittings, the dimensions of the fittings are 1/4" NPT and 7/16" thread depth. It's essential not to use too long fittings as they will block or damage the Shadow Drive internal ports such as Seastar fittings.
Verado Application:
Vessels with a Verado engine require the installation of brass extension fittings on the Shadow Drive. Failure to use the extension fittings on the Shadow Drive valve will cause a flow restriction, and steering the boat may become difficult.
