Full Uninstall of Garmin Express/Garmin Express Fails to Uninstall

Select your operating system below for steps to fully uninstall Garmin Express™ software from your computer.


Windows 11

1. Select the Start button

2. Select Settings


3. Select Apps


4. Select Apps & Features

5. Find Garmin Express and select the three dots

6. Select Uninstall


7. Select Uninstall again


Windows 10

1. Select the Start button

2. Select Settings


3. Select Apps

4. Select Apps & features if necessary

5. Select Garmin Express


6. Select Uninstall


You May Receive a Message "Windows needs to reboot" or the Uninstall Might not Work. Follow These Steps if This Happens: 

Open the Task Manager by holding down Ctrl + Shift + Esc

1. Click Yes if prompted to allow Task Manager to make changes to your computer

2. Click the Processes tab

3. Select More details if the tabs are not present

4. Select Windows Update Service (if present) and click End Task

5. Select Microsoft Service Process (if present) and click End Task

6. Restart the computer and follow the above steps to uninstall Garmin Express again

NOTE: Shutting down, pressing the power button, or closing the lid on a notebook computer may not effectively restart the computer on some operating systems. Follow the instructions below to ensure that the computer is completely restarted.

Windows 10

  1. Right-click the windows icon Start button

  2. Click Power

    • Some computers may skip this step


  3. Click Shut down or sign out

  4. Click Restart

 


Windows Only - These Troubleshooting Steps are for Advanced Users if the Above Does not Work:

1. Follow the steps in .msi File Not Found when Updating a Garmin Software Application, which may correct the issue before following the next step.

2. We recommend trying a different computer or getting the computer checked by a Microsoft Certified Repair Technician if you are not comfortable with these steps or these steps don't fix the issue.


Mac OS X:

NOTE: This process may delete the backups from Garmin Express. See Manage Saved Places on an Automotive Device using BaseCamp on a Mac for instructions to back up those items with BaseCamp.

1. Quit Garmin Express from the menu bar (the black triangle icon in the upper right area of the screen)

2. Click Quit in the “Keep Garmin Express running in the background?” pop-up box

3. Click the Finder icon on the dock

4. Click Go from the Apple menu bar (upper-left area of the screen)

5. Click Applications

6. Click and drag the Garmin Express icon to the Trash

7. Enter your Mac Administrator User Name and Password.

8. Click Go from the Apple menu bar (upper-left area of the screen)

9. Press and hold one of the Option keys on the keyboard

 

10. Press Library

11. Open the Preferences folder

12. Click and drag any files with names that start with "com.garmin.renu" to the Trash

13. Click Back to return to the Library

14. Open the Application Support folder

15. Open the Garmin folder

16. Click and drag the Express folder to the Trash

17. Click Back to return to the Application Support folder

18. Click Back again to return to the Library

19. Open the Caches folder

20. Click and drag the following (if present) files to the Trash:

  • com.garmin.renu.client

  • com.garmin.renu.service.crashreporter

  • com.garmin.renu.service

21. Empty the Trash

  • If the Trash cannot be emptied, restart the Mac and try again to Empty Trash.

If the Above Steps do not Work:

  • Try using Garmin Express on a different computer.

  • Consult a Microsoft Certified Repair Technician for Windows.

  • Consult an Apple Authorized Service Provider for Mac.
