My Edge 500 is Frozen on the Startup Screen
Older software for the Edge 500 can cause the device to either lock-up or get stuck in a constant power cycle, resulting in the device to never progress past the startup screen. This can be caused by a corrupt file and you will need to place the device in mass storage mode to access the file by walking through the following:
Hold the PAGE/MENU key with the device powered off.
Connect the Edge 500 to the computer using the USB cable while continuing to hold down the PAGE/MENU key.
After10 seconds of being connected to the computer, release the PAGE/MENU key.
Open the Edge 500 Drive once it communicates to computer.
Select the Garmin folder.
Locate the NewFiles Folder but do not open it.
Delete the NewFiles Folder.
If you are using a Mac, empty the Trash Bin on your computer to complete the deleting process.
The device will now proceed past the startup screen. You will need to update to the latest software version using Garmin Express.
