iOS App Permissions for the Garmin Connect App

The Garmin Connect™ app for iOS (Apple) needs specific phone permissions in order to provide your Garmin device with the full experience of features it is capable of. To provide better transparency for these permission requests we have detailed the purpose for each below. 

Background App Refresh

Allows the Garmin Connect app to update content from the internet when the app is running in the background.


Bluetooth®

Required to sync your Garmin device with the Garmin Connect app.

Used for the Find My Phone feature.

Used for Garmin device Bluetooth connection alerts.


Calendars

Allows smart notifications to send calendar event notifications to your Garmin device.


Camera

Used if you select "Take Photo" or "Camera" when adding a photo to an activity or changing the picture on your Garmin Connect profile.


Cellular Data

Allows data to be uploaded to the Garmin Connect app using cellular data.


Contacts

Allows you to send LiveTrack invites and Incident Detection messages to phone contacts.


Location

Used to search for nearby Segments and Golf Courses.

Used to pull local weather information.

Allows your location to be displayed on Course and Segment maps.

Lets you share your location for assistance and incident detection.

Used for connected GPS.


Media & Apple Music

Used to enable older Garmin devices to control your Apple device’s music using the music control widget.


Notifications

Allows notifications from the Garmin Connect app to be sent to your Apple device.


Photos

Allows photos on your phone to be accessed when adding a photo to an activity or changing the picture on your Garmin Connect profile.


Siri & Search

Allows Siri to learn from how you use the Garmin Connect app to make suggestions across apps.
