File Limitations of the Foretrex 801/901 Ballistic Edition

When sending or creating files for a Foretrex® 801 or Foretrex® 901 Ballistic Edition outdoor navigator, keep in mind the following limitations:

  • A maximum of 500 waypoints can be stored
  • A maximum of 50 routes, with up to 250 points per route
  • A maximum of 100 saved tracks, with up to 500 points per track
    • NOTE: Courses sent to the device will automatically be converted to tracks
  • Ability to add maps unsupported

When recording an active track on a Foretrex 801 or 901 the device can gather up to 10,000 points. Upon saving the track the device will create two files: one .FIT file, and one .GPX file. The .FIT file will contain all points in the recorded track, but the .GPX file will be automatically filtered down to 500 points. The .FIT file is designed to be exported from the device for viewing in Garmin Connect™ or Garmin BaseCamp™ programs. The .GPX file is used by the device for viewing on the map or using the TracBack® feature.

The Foretrex 801/901 Ballistic Edition navigator has the following track limitations:

  • Track log in .FIT format: 10,000 points
  • Track log in .GPX format: 500 points
  • 1 saved track displayed on the map at a time

While recording a track, the track can have up to 10,000 points. When the track is saved, or a track is imported into Foretrex navigator that has more than 500 points, it will be automatically filtered down to 500 points.
