Before signing up for service for an inReach® satellite communicator, it is a good idea to review and select a plan. This helps ensure an understanding of the plan that best suits what is needed, and speeds up the activation process.
Subscription Plan Details
NOTE: Each device must have an active satellite subscription before inReach® communication features will be available to it, including messaging, SOS, tracking, and inReach Weather.
All inReach subscription options are month-to-month, only require a 30-day commitment, and allow you to move up or down plan tiers when tracking or communication needs change.

inReach Consumer Plans
For outdoor enthusiasts, travelers, and anyone who needs a global communications solution, an inReach device and satellite subscription can add preparedness and peace of mind during adventures. Our Consumer subscription plans offer 3 levels to meet different tracking and communication needs.
Designed for a single user.
Ideal for personal use, whether it be seasonal or year-round.
Service cannot be suspended, but can be cancelled when it is no longer needed without any early cancellation fees or downgraded to a pay-as-you-go Enabled plan. For more details, see - inReach Consumer Enabled Plan Explained.

Our Professional subscription plans offer 3 levels to meet the operational needs of the team or organization.
Designed for multiple users and devices on one account
Ideal for businesses, organizations, or teams.
Suspend service (for a monthly fee) in the off season, or when staff is not deployed in the field.
Enhanced administration tools are available to manage devices, tracking, and communications.
Advanced API provides access to messaging and tracking data.
All Flex Team plans feature team tracking with built-in inReach technology to see the positions of race vehicles and chase trucks in real time with global satellite coverage. Flex Team plans are designed to be flexible, so you can activate and deactivate your plan based on your racing schedule. Our Flex Team subscription plans offer 3 levels to meet different team tracking interval (refresh rate) needs.
SOS: All plans offer unlimited use of the SOS function to contact the Garmin Response℠ team. If you have questions about using an SOS in specific scenarios, or have follow-up questions after having triggered an SOS for any reason, contact the Garmin Response Center.
Text Messages: Refers to the number of text messages (SMS, email, or inReach to inReach) allotted per month for each plan. Text messages are limited to 160 characters.
Photo and Voice Messages: Refers to the number of photo and voice messages allotted per month for each plan. Photos will automatically be resized if the file is too large. Voice messages are limited to 30 seconds. Photo and voice messages can only be sent/received over the Iridium satellite network when using the inReach Messenger Plus satellite communicator.
Check-In Messages: All Consumer plans include unlimited use of 3 check-in messages that must be set up in advance through your Garmin Explore™ account. Incoming check-in messages received from another inReach user are also unlimited. You can customize the recipient list of your check-in messages, but you cannot customize what the check-in messages say. Message content is limited to 1) I'm checking in, everything is okay, 2) I'm starting my trip, and 3) I'm ending my trip.
Preset Messages: All Pro and Flex Team plans include unlimited use of 3 preset messages, that must be set up in advance through your Garmin Explore account. Incoming preset messages received from another inReach user are also unlimited. You can customize the recipient list as well as what each of these 3 messages say.
Quick Text Messages: All plans offer the use of up to 20 Quick Text messages that count towards the included text message allotment for your specific plan. These messages are designed to save time by not having to type out commonly-used phrases and replies, and can only be edited through your Garmin Explore account.
Send/Track Points: Location data gathered by the inReach device and transmitted to your Garmin Explore account and a tracking page for others to view and follow along with your trip progress.
NOTE: With Consumer Essential and Pro Basic plans, there is an additional cost per point (varies by currency). As an example, if the send interval is set to 30 minutes and tracking is on for 1 hour, there could be a charge for 3 track points.
Tracking Intervals (Consumer and Pro Plans): Refers to the minimum time interval at which tracking points can be sent. Tracking intervals will display the location of the device(s) in your Garmin Explore account and on a tracking page for others to view.
Team Tracking Intervals (Flex Team Plans): Refers to the time between update requests. Users should expect additional data transfer times compared to the Tracking Intervals that are available with Consumer and Pro plans.
Team tracking interval ranges are based on the Flex Team plan associated with the device(s) and can only be changed by changing the Flex Team plan associated with the device(s).
Team Tracking Intervals will display the location of the devices(s) in your Garmin Explore account Group you are tracking.
inReach satellite communicators using the Garmin Explore app or Garmin Messenger™ app can contribute to Team Tracking, but cannot participate in group messaging or act as the Team Tracking Receiver.
Location Pings or Requests: Requests that can be sent from a MapShare™ page, if enabled, to provide the location of an inReach device.
Weather: Provides a detailed weather forecast (level of detail and length of forecast varies by device). For locations on an ocean or other large body of water, 6-7 days of wind, wave height, ocean current, and visibility details will also be included, if available.
inReach SE®, inReach SE+, inReach Explorer®, inReach Explorer+, and inReach Mini handhelds: 7-day weather forecast reported in varying intervals (1-2 hour intervals for the first day, 3-6 hour intervals for the next day and 12-hour intervals for the remaining 5 days).
All newer Garmin inReach devices: 2-day weather forecast reported in two hour intervals, with an 8-day extended forecast.
Activation Fee: A fee applied to activate the subscription.
Text Message Overage (Each): Cost of each additional text message over the monthly message allotment. Text messages are limited to 160 characters.
Media Message Overage (Each): Cost of each additional photo or voice message over the monthly message allotment.
Suspend Fee (Pro and Flex Team Plans): A fee applied to suspended devices on Pro and Flex Team plans for account maintenance.

1As of September 18th, 2024, inReach Freedom subscription plans are no longer available for new inReach activations. Existing customers with inReach Freedom subscription plans will still be able to suspend and reactivate their service until their next annual renewal date unless they change to a different plan.
