Troubleshooting a VIRB Mobile App Issue with a Garmin Dash Cam

NOTE: The VIRB® Mobile app has been discontinued from the Google Play Store and is no longer available to download for Android devices.


We Suggest Troubleshooting in This Order for Pairing Issues With the VIRB Mobile App and a Dash Cam Device:

NOTES:

  • It is not possible to troubleshoot a Wi-Fi issue while on an active phone call.
    • This may interfere with certain features.
  • The camera cannot pair with a phone when plugged into a computer.
  • Use the vehicle power cable provided with the device or the Parking Mode Cable.

1. Phone Requirements

Ensure Your Phone Meets System Requirements for the VIRB Mobile App:

  • It is necessary to use a phone which meets these requirements.
    • Android version 6.0 or later
    • Apple version 12.0 or later

Check for Updates to the Phone's Operating System:

  • Android

    NOTE: These steps will vary depending on the phone and OS combination

    1. Open the phone's Settings menu

    2. Touch Software Update or System Updates 

    3. Touch Download and install or Check for system updates

    4. Touch Download or Yes,  then Install Now if updates are available


    Apple

    NOTE: These steps will vary depending on the phone and iOS combination

    1. Open the phone's Settings menu

    2. Touch General

    3. Touch Software Update

    4. Touch Download and Install, then Install Now if updates are available



Ensure your Phone's Permissions are Enabled:

  • Phone Permissions Required to Use the VIRB App:


    Android

    • Files and Media
    • Local Network
    • Location
    • Nearby Devices

    Apple

    • Cellular Data
    • Local Network

    NOTE: Wi-Fi must be enabled to use the VIRB app. 


2. Software Updates

Check for Updates to the Software of the Garmin Dash Cam:


Check for Updates to the VIRB Mobile App (iOS only):

  • Search for the VIRB Mobile app in the App Store to check for updates and apply them, if available.
  • The installed version number of the VIRB Mobile app can be found on the phone itself If the app will not launch.

3. Restart Phone

  • Be sure to completely restart your phone before proceeding.
  • See your phone's documentation for instructions.

4. Clear App Cache

Clear the VIRB Mobile App’s Temporary Cache Files From the Phone:

  • Clearing the cache can remove any problematic files from the phone's temporary storage.
Most iPhones:
  1. Double-press the iPhone's home button
  2. A list of currently running apps will appear
  3. Swipe up on the VIRB app to remove it from the list and close it
iPhone X and Newer:
  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause while still pressing the screen
  2. Swipe up on the app 
Android:
  1. Open the phone's Settings menu
  2. Touch Storage (some phones skip this step)
  3. Touch Other Apps or Apps
  4. Touch VIRB
  5. Touch Storage (some phones skip this step)
  6. Touch Clear Cache

The temporary files should now be cleared and the app can be re-opened.


5. Uninstall and Reinstall the VIRB Mobile App (iOS only)

To Uninstall the VIRB Mobile Drive App on Apple:

  1. Touch and hold the VIRB Mobile app icon
  2. Touch the X that appears in the corner of the icon

It can be re-downloaded from the phone's Google Play Store/iTunes App Store.
