Troubleshooting Bluetooth or Pairing Issues with the Xero S1 and Xero S App

The following FAQ addresses the various connection or pairing issues with the Garmin Xero® S1 trapshooting trainer or Garmin Xero® S app by clearing and resetting both the device and the phone app in a specific way.

Items to Check

  • Ensure that the smartphone is connected to the internet via a mobile data plan or Wi-Fi. The Garmin Xero S app requires a connection with the internet to sync new data or pair with a smartphone. 
  • Ensure Bluetooth is turned on in your phone settings. 
  • Ensure Phone Setting is On in the Xero S1 trainer:
    1. Select Settings white gear
    2. Select Phone
  • Power off, then back on both the smartphone and the Xero S1 trainer.

Checking Phone Requirements

Check for updates to the phone’s operating system.


iOS

  1. Open the phone's Settings menu
  2. Touch General
  3. Touch Software Update

Android

The steps below may vary by Android device.

  1. Open the phone's Settings menu
  2. Touch Software Update 
  3. Touch Download updates manually
  4. Touch About Phone
  5. Touch System Updates

The phone should now check for and apply any necessary system updates.

Software Updates

Check for updates to the software of the Garmin Xero S1 trainer.

Forgetting the Device From Phone's Bluetooth Settings

Clear the Garmin Xero S1 trainer listing from the phone’s pairing history. Steps for clearing pairing history on the phone can vary by make/model. If unsure how to clear your phone's pairing history, consult your phone's manual or manufacturer. The steps below apply to most iOS and Android phones.

Clear Pairing History on iOS

  1. Open the phone's Settings menu
  2. Touch Bluetooth
  3. Touch the info button ("i" icon) next to the paired Garmin Xero S1 device
  4. Touch “Forget this device”

Clear Pairing History on Android

  1. Open the phone's Settings menu
  2. Touch Connections
  3. Touch Bluetooth
  4. Touch the gear icon next to your listed Garmin Xero S1 device
    • On some Android phones, select the name of the listed Garmin Xero S1 device instead
  5. Touch Forget/Unpair

The Garmin Xero S1 trainer will now be cleared from your phone's pairing history.

Clear App Cache

Clear the Garmin Xero S app’s temporary cache files from the phone. Clearing the cache can remove any problematic files from the phone's temporary storage.

iOS

Android

The steps below may vary by Android device.

  1. Open the phone's Settings menu
  2. Touch Storage
  3. Touch Other Apps or Apps
  4. Touch Xero
  5. Touch Storage
  6. Touch Clear Cache

The temporary files should now be cleared and the app can be re-opened.

Uninstall and Reinstall the Garmin Xero S App

iOS

  1. Touch and hold the Garmin Xero S app icon
  2. Touch the X that appears in the corner of the icon

Android

The steps below may vary by Android device.

  1. Open the phone's Settings menu
  2. Touch Apps
  3. Touch the Garmin Xero S app
  4. Touch Uninstall

After the app has been uninstalled, it can be re-downloaded from the App Store or Google Play Store on your phone.

Factory Reset of Xero S1 Device

A factory reset will delete pairing information from the Garmin Xero S1 device. It will also clear any previous round and setting data.
  1. Select white gear
  2. Select System
  3. Select Reset
  4. Select an option:
    • Select Settings to reset all settings to default values.
    • Select Format Storage to format and erase all user data stored on the device.
    • Select Factory Reset to delete all user data and reset all settings to factory default values.

Attempt the Initial Pairing Procedure Again

iOS

  1. From the App Store on your iOS device, install and open the Xero app
  2. Bring the devices within 10 m (33 ft.) of each other
  3. On your Xero S1:
    1. Select Settings
    2. Select Phone
    3. Select Add New
  4. From the Xero app, select the Plus and follow the on-screen instructions. 

Android

  1. On the Xero S1
    1. Select Settings
    2. Select Phone
    3. Select Add New
  2. Open the Garmin Xero S app on your smartphone
  3. Sign in with your Garmin Account, or create a new account

Once signed into the app, select the + in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, and follow the on-screen instructions.
