Correcting a Solid Red Light on DC Collar with an Astro 320
If a DC™ 20, DC™ 30, or DC™ 40 collar is displaying a solid red light when unplugged from the charger and is unresponsive, you can attempt to wirelessly reinstall the firmware in a special way using a Astro® 320 dog tracking handheld. You should first update the Astro 320 handheld with Garmin Express software.
NOTE: If the collar was removed from the Dog List, first follow the section on Adding the Collar Back into the Dog List.
Adding a Collar with a Solid Red Light Back into the Dog List
If the collar device was removed from the dog list, you will need to re-add a dog into the Dog List. You can force the update after that.
- Turn all collars off
- Power on Astro
- Press DOG
- Press MENU
- Select Dog List
- Select Add Dog
- Select No when asked Are you able to touch the handheld to the new dog unit?
- Select Yes when asked Do you know the dog unit ID?
- Select any available number
- Enter a name if you would like
- Select Done

Wirelessly Install New Software into a DC Collar to Correct the Solid Red Light Issue
To correct a solid red light on the DC collars, you must force in a wireless software update to the collar from the Astro 320 handheld.
NOTE: If you have removed the collar from the dog list, you must re-add a collar back into the dog list with the instructions in the previous section above
Before you begin, the collar must be powered off. Press and Hold the Power key for up to 30 seconds until the red light goes out.
1. | Make sure your Astro is powered On and in close proximity to the collar | |
2. | Press DOG | |
3. | Press MENU | |
4. | Select Dog List | |
5. | Select the specific collar to update | |
6. | Select Show Info | |
7. | Press MENU | |
8. | Press and hold Power key on the collar

9. | Select Upgrade Dog Unit | |
10. | The update will now be transferred to the collar
| |
11. | Wait for the update to transfer
| |
Once complete, the Astro 320 will return to the Dog Info page

If the process fails, this would indicate the collar is damaged or has failed. These collars are no longer repairable.
