Rapidly moving air entering the sensor port
Gusts of wind or air entering the sensor port while participating in high speed activities could be misread as a rapid change in barometric pressure.
Moving to and from climate controlled or pressurized environments (indoors to outdoors)
Consider calibrating the sensor while you are outdoors.
Clothing covering the sensor port
Fluctuating barometer data or lower/higher than expected altitude may be caused by articles of clothing covering the sensor port.
Make sure the sensor port is not covered.
Debris blocking the sensor port
Soap, dirt, or salts from sweat which can clog the sensor port (located between the Start/Stop and Back/Lap buttons).
Clean the sensor port.

Storm Alerts on Garmin Watches
Some Garmin watches are capable of providing storm alerts so you can be notified of conditions that could indicate an approaching storm. Before setting a storm alert, it is recommended to have a good understanding of units for measuring atmospheric pressure and how changes in atmospheric pressure occur during weather systems.
How Do Storm Alerts Work?
Storm alerts are based on changes in barometric pressure. The watch uses a barometric altimeter to measure these changes and when rapid changes in pressure are detected a Storm Alert message will appear on the watch. There are different units for representing atmospheric pressure and you can change the units for measuring pressure to one of the four supported formats below:
Units of Atmospheric Pressure
Inches (Hg)
mmHg
Millibars
Hectopascals
A storm alert will trigger based the rate of atmospheric pressure change over the amount time that you set.
Storm Alert Settings
Storm alerts can be enabled or disabled. You can also customize the rate of barometric pressure change that will trigger a storm alert. Steps for adjusting these settings will vary depending on the model of Garmin watch you have. For specific instructions, refer to "Setting Alerts" and "Barometer Settings" in your owner's manual.
Troubleshooting Issues With Storm Alerts
If you are getting too few or too many storm alerts, first try adjusting the rate of barometric pressure change that triggers a storm alert and updating the software on your watch with Gamin Express. If this does not help, this could be due to other outside factors or needing to clean the sensor port.
