Alexa Incorrectly Understanding Commands Through the Garmin Speak or Garmin Speak Plus

Over time, Amazon Alexa will adapt to your speech patterns, vocabulary, and preferences to more accurately interpret your commands through the Garmin Speak or Garmin Speak Plus device. The Amazon Alexa App support page will give steps to review your Dialog History, which will show what commands were given to your device and how Alexa interpreted them; you can rate their accuracy to improve Alexa’s voice recognition.

To give commands to Alexa through the Garmin Speak or Garmin Speak Plus device, ensure the device is mounted properly according to the Mounting Considerations section of the owner’s manual, and speak naturally and at a normal volume.

Support: Mounting a Garmin Speak

In order for Alexa to recognize any navigation-related commands, such as searching for a point of interest, traffic up ahead, or arrival time, the Garmin skill must be specified. For example, a command must be given as “Alexa, ask Garmin to…", otherwise, Alexa will not recognize the command.

If Amazon misinterprets commands to find specific locations, such as points of interest, these locations can be entered in the Garmin Speak app on your phone to start navigation. For more information, refer to Starting a Route in the owner's manual.
