Ideal Speed for Garmin Quickdraw Contour Mapping

When recording Quickdraw contours, the vessel's speed plays a role in the quality of recordings. For best results, the recommended rate does not exceed 10 MPH. With Quickdraw Recording set to on, a colored area around the boat's icon will appear on the chart. Called the Area of Influence, it represents the approximate area currently being surveyed. Additionally, turning on Survey Coloring within the Quickdraw settings menu will give a status of the entire area surveyed. Below is a chart describing what the different colors of this area will mean. While any transducer will work with the Garmin chartplotter to record Quickdraw mapping, a Panoptix transducer will provide best-quality recordings.
