Setting up Strava Beacon in the Garmin Connect App

Strava Beacon is a feature that allows users to share their real-time location with up to 3 safety contacts via a text message that contains a URL. When used with the LiveTrack feature in the Garmin Connect™ app, a Beacon link will be sent to your safety contacts once you start recording an activity.

  2. Select Record.

  3. Select beacon icon in strava.

  4. Toggle Beacon on.

Once you've started your recording, you will see a Beacon notification in the notification dropdown on your smartphone. You can tap the notification to return to the settings page in the Strava app to send additional Beacon links.

You will need to have your smartphone with you while recording your activity to transmit your location data to your safety contacts and you will need cellular service.1 If you lose service at any time during your activity, your location will be updated the next time you are back in service.

1 The vívoactive® 3 Music (Verizon) and Forerunner® 945 LTE watches require connection to a smartphone via Bluetooth® to use this feature. You cannot use the LTE connection of the watch to utilize Strava Beacon.
