Removing Garmin Software and Garmin Registry Keys in Windows for an Automotive Device
Garmin software is removed from Windows using the standard uninstall procedure for Windows.
To Remove Garmin Software:
- Press the Windows key + R
- Type appwiz.cpl
- Click Ok
- Right-click on the name of the application to remove
- Select Uninstall
- Follow the on-screen prompts (if necessary)
IMPORTANT: Removal of Garmin registry keys is not necessary under normal circumstances and should only be performed for troubleshooting purposes or for a complete uninstall. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require Windows to be reinstalled. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To Remove a Garmin Application From the Registry:
- Press the Windows key + R
- Type regedit
- Click OK
- Back up the registry1
- Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER to show folders
- Expand Software
- Expand the Garmin folder
- Right-click the folder for the application being uninstalled
- Click Delete
- Click Yes to confirm
- Click the arrow next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER to collapse folders
- Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Expand Software
- Expand Wow6432Node (This step only applies to 64-bit operating systems)
- Expand the Garmin folder
- Right-click the folder for the application being uninstalled
- Click Delete
- Click Yes to confirm
- Close the Registry Editor
- Restart the computer
The Garmin software is now removed from the computer.
1To Back Up the Registry:
- In the Registry Editor, right-click (My) Computer at the top of the left-hand column
- Click Export
- Browse to the C: drive
- Enter Gregistry for the name and click Save
The registry will now be backed up.
