Removing Garmin Software and Garmin Registry Keys in Windows for an Automotive Device

Garmin software is removed from Windows using the standard uninstall procedure for Windows.

To Remove Garmin Software:

  1. Press the Windows key + R
  2. Type appwiz.cpl
  3. Click Ok
  4. Right-click on the name of the application to remove
  5. Select Uninstall
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts (if necessary)

IMPORTANT: Removal of Garmin registry keys is not necessary under normal circumstances and should only be performed for troubleshooting purposes or for a complete uninstall. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require Windows to be reinstalled. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To Remove a Garmin Application From the Registry:

  1. Press the Windows key + R
  2. Type regedit
  3. Click OK
  4. Back up the registry1
  5. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER to show folders
  6. Expand Software
  7. Expand the Garmin folder
  8. Right-click the folder for the application being uninstalled
  9. Click Delete
  10. Click Yes to confirm
  11. Click the arrow next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER to collapse folders
  12. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  13. Expand Software
  14. Expand Wow6432Node (This step only applies to 64-bit operating systems)
  15. Expand the Garmin folder
  16. Right-click the folder for the application being uninstalled
  17. Click Delete
  18. Click Yes to confirm
  19. Close the Registry Editor
  20. Restart the computer

The Garmin software is now removed from the computer.


1To Back Up the Registry:

  1. In the Registry Editor, right-click (My) Computer at the top of the left-hand column
  2. Click Export
  3. Browse to the C: drive
  4. Enter Gregistry for the name and click Save

The registry will now be backed up.
