Testing Text Messaging on an inReach Handheld
It is recommended to test both that your subscription service is active and that you can send out a text message. Sending out a test text message will ensure that your inReach is working properly before you take it out into the field. You can find instructions to test your inReach service is active by visiting Testing inReach Service to Verify Active Subscription.
To test the messaging service, follow the recommended guidelines of utilizing Preset Messages below.
Testing Text Messaging on an inReach
NOTE: Remember that while outbound Preset Messages do not count against any plan, any reply will count against the subscriptions plan if you are on a Safety or Recreation plan.
- Edit text and add recipients for a Preset Message.
- For testing, it is suggested to set yourself as the recipient.
- For instructions on editing Preset Messages, see Editing inReach Preset Messages.
- Sync your inReach with inReach Sync App (computer) or Garmin Earthmate App (mobile).
- Select how you want to sync for instructions: inReach Sync or Earthmate for Android or Earthmate for iOS
- NOTE: inReach Explorer and SE users must sync Preset Messages via inReach Sync.
- Take your inReach outside with a clear view of the sky and send the Preset Message.
If the Preset Message was successfully received, your inReach is working properly.
