Shortening or extending the GA 29/30/38 antenna cable
The GA 29/30/38's antenna cable can be shortened or extended if necessary. However, it is important to note that any non-factory adjustments made to the cable will void the warranty of the product. This includes shortening the cable in the field as described below.
To shorten this cable, a BNC connector (RG-58 and 50 ohm) will be needed. A crimp or solder connector is recommended and not a screw on connector.
To extend this cable, it is recommended to not exceed an additional 30' of cable. When extending this distance a 3-4Db loss of signal strength is to be expected. If reception issues do arise then jumping to a larger cable size such as RG8X is recommended. To connect these cables you will need two BNC connectors (RG-58 and 50 ohm) as well as a double male BNC connector to connect both cables together.
To prevent voiding the warranty of the cable, please refrain from making any adjustments to the cable. Garmin recommends simply coiling the extra cable if it needs to be.
