Using the Race an Activity Feature on My Garmin Watch

Select Garmin watches will allow you to race against the speed/pace of a course or previously recorded activity. There are a few different ways in which speed/pace will be displayed depending on the type of course or activity you are racing against and the data fields you have enabled. Refer to your owner's manual and search "Race an Activity" to determine if your watch has this feature.

How Speed/Pace is Calculated

From History

This option is used to select a previously recorded activity from the watch. Dynamic speed/pace will be displayed and a virtual partner/racer will match the speed/pace of the previously recorded activity (refer to your owner's manual for more details on virtual partner/racer).

Downloaded

This option is used to select a course that has been downloaded from your Garmin Connect™ account.

  • Racing a Course Created in Garmin Connect

    • The average speed/pace used to create the course in Garmin Connect will be the constant speed/pace of the virtual partner/racer.

  • Racing a Course Created From an Activity Within Garmin Connect

    • If the course has not been edited, it will have zero speed/pace and will need to be edited to have an average speed/pace.

How Speed/Pace is Displayed on the Watch

The following sections explain how to tell if you are ahead of or behind the speed/pace of the course or activity you are racing against. Select a section to view examples.
