Navionics Chartplotter Card Renewal Process


NOTE: In order to renew a Navionics®+ or Navionics Platinum+™ card subscription, Auto-Renew must be selected before the purchase can be made. Auto-Renewal can be cancelled at any time from the Subscription Portal. The following countries do not have to agree to auto-renewal: Netherlands, Türkiye, South Africa and Israel.


The subscription renewal cost on a marine chart card is up to 50% lower than a new card purchase. If you do not have an active automatic renewable subscription for your registered marine chart, you can schedule a renewal up to 90 days prior expiration date.

IMPORTANT: Chartplotter card subscriptions not activated or renewed for 5 years or more will not be eligible for subscription renewal pricing. A new card will need to be purchased at the new card price.

Renew Using the Navionics Chart Installer

  1. Insert your expired Navionics card into your PC.
  2. Open the Chart Installer software.
    Download the current Chart Installer here.
  3. Log into your Navionics account.
  4. You will receive a message your subscription is expired.
    Select Proceed.
  5. Enter your billing and contact information.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. Proceed to download updated charts and features to your card.

For marine chart cards expired prior to October 25, 2023, your subscription will be upgraded to our current chart catalog.

Coverage

Navionics+ products cannot be upgraded to Platinum+. Any Navionics+ card on a memory capacity of 2GB or greater can be renewed. If your current Platinum+ or HotMaps® Platinum cards do not have enough memory capacity to accept the renewal, you will be prompted to purchase a new card through the Garmin website at full price.  

Card Initialization

Upon selecting the new coverage area, the previous chart coverage will be removed/erased from the card. This will not affect any other files saved to your card, such as those saved while creating SonarChart™ Live.

Downloading New Chart Data

Once the card has been initialized, you will be prompted to download the new chart coverage.

Navionics+ cards under 16GB, you can select and download the areas of charting you need within the memory capacity of the card. Cards with sufficient capacity will download the entire coverage area.

Platinum+ cards will allow for the download of charts, as well as the selection and download of Platinum features.

Renew Using the Navionics Boating App

Renewing Through Plotter Sync

  1. Connect your mobile device to the plotter's internal Wi-Fi.
  2. Open your Navionics Boating app.
  3. When your plotter card is recognized you will receive the option to renew through your Subscription Portal.
  4. Tap Renew.
  5. Follow the prompts through the purchase process.
    You will need to switch back to internet Wi-Fi and then back to your plotter Wi-Fi during the process.

NOTE: In order to update charts on your plotter card through the Boating app, an active subscription within the app is required.

In order to update all of your chart coverage at once, use the Chart Installer software. See the related link regarding the download of updates.

Renewing Through the App Menu

  1. Open your Navionics Boating app.
  2. Tap Menu.
  3. Select Subscriptions.
  4. Choose Chartplotter.
  5. Tap on the marine chart subscription you wish to renew.
  6. Follow the prompts through the purchase process.

Once the purchase is complete, you can either update your charts through Plotter Sync (with compatible plotters) or by removing your card and using the Chart Installer software on a Windows or Mac computer.

If the Boating App is Stating to Renew Through the Chart Installer

If the Boating app is stating to renew via the Navionics Chart Installer, you will need to remove your card from your chartplotter and take it to a computer. Once there, you can proceed through the process under the section titled Renew Using the Navionics Chart Installer.

Renewing Through Your Subscription Portal at Garmin.com

  1. Go to your Subscription Portal.
  2. Locate the subscription you wish to renew and select the RENEW button.
  3. Review your plan information and Terms and Conditions.
    If you are renewing a subscription before expiration, billing will occur on the Start Date of the new subscription.
  4. Select ACCEPT & CONTINUE.
  5. Review your subscription information.
  6. Review or add your billing address and credit card information.
  7. Select COMPLETE RENEWAL.

Once the purchase is complete, you can either update your charts through Plotter Sync (with compatible plotters) or by removing your card and using the Chart Installer software on a Windows or Mac computer.


Renew by Purchasing a Navionics+ Updates Card

Navionics+ Updates is a new, blank, physical card available for purchase through our online store or a dealer.

IMPORTANT: The Navionics+ Updates cards allow for download of standard chart features. Navionics Platinum+ cards can activate a new Navionics+ Updates card, but premium features will not be available.

Navionics®+ Updates cards can be activated using a Navionics marine chart card produced in 2014 or later, have not been renewed after October 23, 2023, or are not currently under an active subscription. Navionics Platinum products can be used to activate Navionics+ Updates, but will not contain Platinum features. Use it to upgrade from an existing Navionics card that is too old to update online through our Chart Installer program, to change media card format or coverage area. The Navionics+ Updates card does not update the subscription on the card you already have - rather, it requires your existing card for activation.  

Once activated, the Navionics+ Updates card is your new card, and can be updated throughout your active subscription.
