Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Connections

If you are having trouble connecting your compatible watch to a Wi-Fi network, there are several things that may be causing the issue. Below are some examples of things you can try to resolve this issue.

  • If using the Garmin Express program, verify that Garmin Express software is up to date. The latest version can be downloaded from www.garmin.com/express.

  • If using the Garmin Connect app, verify that it is up to date. The latest version can be downloaded from your mobile device's app store.

  • Ensure the watch software is up to date. If the watch does not have the latest software installed, check for updates with the Garmin Express program.

  • Ensure the Wi-Fi network was added correctly in Garmin Express or the Garmin Connect app. Try removing the network and adding it again.

  • If parental controls are enabled for the Wi-Fi network, the watch may display "No internet connection" when attempting to connect. You will need to remove parental controls to fully connect the watch to that Wi-Fi network.

  • Wi-Fi networks that require you to log in on a browser screen, also known as captive portal, are not compatible with Garmin watches. You will need to use a different Wi-Fi network to connect with the watch.

  • Restart your watch.

  • Try a different Wi-Fi network.

Testing the Wi-Fi Connection

If the Wi-Fi setup completes successfully in Garmin Express or the Garmin Connect app, check the Wi-Fi functionality on the watch with these steps:

NOTE: Disable Bluetooth® if the watch is paired to the Garmin Connect app. This will prevent the activity from being uploaded via Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi.

  1. Record and save a 20 second test activity.

  2. Wait approximately 30 seconds for the watch to establish a Wi-Fi connection and transfer the activity.

  3. If successful, the watch will display a message indicating the transfer is complete.

  4. If one minute elapses without the watch displaying a message, check Garmin Connect to see if the activity appears.

    • If the activity appears in the Connect account, Wi-Fi is functioning properly.

  5. If the activity does not appear in Connect, either the Wi-Fi connection is failing, the date on the watch is wrong, or Connect is unable to accept the upload at this time.

    • Check the Connect Status Page to see if any outages have been reported. If there is currently an outage, you will need to wait for the issue to be resolved.

    • Ensure that the date reported by the watch is correct. If the date is incorrect, activities will be processed and uploaded, but will be sorted under the wrong date in Connect.
