Connecting a Tablet or Phone to the GDL 60 from a Garmin Integrated Flight Deck (GIFD)
Bluetooth should always be the first connection when connecting a tablet or phone to the GDL 60.
Instructions for pairing a tablet or phone to the GDL® 60's data transceiver Bluetooth from the GTC:
- Select Services.
- Select Networks and Pairing.
- Select Settings next to Bluetooth.
- Ensure Bluetooth Pairing Mode is enabled (Bluetooth toggled on/green).
- Select the Tablet or Phone's Bluetooth Settings.
- Refer to the owner's manual for your device if you are not sure how to set it to Find Me/Discoverable mode.
- Initiate pairing by selecting the GDL 60's Bluetooth Device Name on your tablet or phone.
- A pairing passkey will appear on your tablet/phone and on the GTC. Confirm the 6-digit key matches on your tablet/phone and the GTC.
- Selecting Yes confirms pairing with the Bluetooth enabled device.
- Selecting No closes the pop-up without pairing the device.
- Note: Always reject a Bluetooth pairing request if the passkeys on the tablet/phone and the GTC are not identical or if the request originates from an unknown or suspicious device.
- Toggle the Auto-Reconnect button to enable automatic connection between the GDL 60 and your tablet or phone when within range. This feature is not available for Android devices.
- Your tablet/phone will now appear on the Devices tab and the Bluetooth Connected icon associated with the device will appear blue to show a Bluetooth connection is established.
Garmin Pilot Users Only:
A special option in Garmin Pilot™ aviation app can allow a phone or tablet to switch from Bluetooth to Wi-Fi for increased performance and advanced features such as Database Concierge. Devices must be paired via Bluetooth first, before using Garmin Pilot to switch to internal Wi-Fi. For best results, do not manually connect crew devices to the internal Wi-Fi network from the device settings page. Garmin Pilot supports connection to GDL 60's internal Wi-Fi network from within the Garmin Pilot app once pairing is complete.
Process:
- Establish a Bluetooth connection from your tablet/phone to the GDL 60.
- Open Garmin Pilot and select the Connext icon at the top of the screen.
- Select the prompt, Use Avionics Wi-Fi for better performance and functionality.
- Select Join on the prompt to connect to the GDl 60's internal Wi-Fi network.
- Select the GDL 60 device page in Garmin Pilot to ensure that you are connected to the internal Wi-Fi.
