XML_DOMERRORHANDLER.CPP error in MapSource

The XML DOMERRORHANDLER.CPP can indicate an error while creating a back up file in the ‘temp’ folder on the ‘C:’ drive. To resolve the error, clean out the ‘temp’ folder, and then try to load the maps or data again.

To clean out the ‘temp’ folder:

  • Windows XP
    1. Go to Start
    2. Click Run
    3. Type %temp%
    4. Click OK
    5. Click Edit
    6. Click Select All
    7. Right-click on the highlighted files
    8. Click Delete
  • Windows Vista / 7
    1. Go to the Start menu
    2. Type %temp% into the Search box
    3. Press Enter on the keyboard
      • It should open the Temp folder
    4. Press Ctrl + A to select all the files
    5. Right-click on the highlighted files
    6. Click Delete

The ‘temp’ files will now begin to delete. On Windows XP, there may be specific files that will give an option to select yes or no to delete, select no so the file will not be deleted. There may also be a message stating that the file cannot be deleted. On Windows Vista/7, it should give the option to skip a file if it cannot be deleted.

On Windows XP, if during the deletion a message appears stating that the file cannot be deleted:

  1. Click OK (Clicking OK will stop the process which is correct)
  2. Press and hold Ctrl
  3. Click on the first file in the list
  4. Right-click on the remaining files (highlighted in blue)
  5. Click Delete
  6. Repeat the process until all of the ‘temp’ file have been cleared, apart from the files that could not be deleted
  7. Open the Recycle Bin when all of the ‘temp’ files have been deleted
  8. Click Empty the Recycle Bin
  9. Restart the computer
