Preventing Disc Brake Caliper Issues When Using a Tacx Direct Drive Trainer

When mounting a bike that features disc brakes to a direct drive Tacx® smart trainer, we recommend the installation of what is commonly referred to as a bleed block or bleed spacer in the rear brake caliper. This will help prevent the pistons within your brake caliper from moving outward by accident if you happen to grab your brake lever while riding on your trainer.

The Disc Brake Caliper on My Bike Is Making Contact With the Trainer

In some cases the disc brake caliper can make contact with the housing of the trainer when the bike is properly installed. Tacx NEO series trainers include a 2.7mm axle spacer to eliminate this contact. The spacer fits over the threaded portion of the non-drive side (NDS) end cap before it is secured onto the trainer axle.

NOTE: The images below show a Tacx® NEO 2T smart trainer. The process is the same for all Tacx direct drive trainers with a Type 2 axle.

  1. Loosen and remove the non-drive side end cap

  2. Place the silver 2.7mm spacer over the threaded portion of the end cap and replace the end cap on the trainer.

If adding the 2.7mm spacer does not create enough clearance for the disc caliper, the caliper fixing bolts may need to be loosened to adjust the caliper away from the trainer.
