Garmin Dash Cam Power Issues, Frozen, or Not Powering On

Check the Following if a Garmin Dash Cam Won't Power On or is Having Power Issues, Freezes, or Experiences Freezing During Recording:

  • Ensure the vehicle power cable that came with the camera is being used

  • Ensure the vehicle power cable is plugged directly into a 12V power outlet or cigarette lighter outlet in the vehicle, rather than through a splitter or straight into a USB port

  • Update the camera software

  • If the vehicle is hot, allow it to cool down before plugging in the Dash Cam

  • Check the light on the end of the vehicle power cable and make sure it is lit

  • Connect the device to a power source with its Vehicle Power Cable

    • Press and hold the power button and slowly count to 30

    • An A/C adapter may also be used, but if the problem persists, the Vehicle Power Cable will need to be used

    • Remove the installed memory card, then press and hold the power button and slowly count to 30. If the camera displays a memory card error message, reinstall the memory card. If the issue persists, install a new memory card.
