Garmin Pilot Downloads Versus Database Concierge Downloads

In the Garmin Pilot™ app, Garmin Pilot Downloads contains the databases for Garmin Pilot. Whereas the Database Concierge Downloads contain the databases your (applicable) Garmin Panel Mounted Avionics will use through a wireless transfer.  See details regarding storage requirements for Garmin Pilot Downloads and Database Concierge databases below.

How to View Garmin Pilot Downloads:

  1. Navigate to Home.
  2. Select Downloads.
  3. Select Garmin Pilot Downloads.

Storage Requirements for Garmin Pilot Downloads

Base Installation:

  • Garmin Pilot requires approximately 3GB of storage to accommodate the fundamental set of GP databases and user data.

Additional Databases and Charts:

  • Storage needs beyond the base installation are directly influenced by the specific databases, charts, and geographical regions that are purchased and downloaded. For instance, the complete set of U.S. Sectional charts requires approximately 7GB of storage when both the current and next cycle charts are downloaded simultaneously.
  • General Recommendation: As a general guideline, it is recommended to allocate between 10GB and 30GB of storage for Garmin Pilot to ensure sufficient space for its databases and potential future updates.

How to View Database Concierge Downloads:

  1. Navigate to Home.
  2. Select Downloads.
  3. Select Database Concierge Downloads.

Note: Database Concierge needs to be manually enabled on Garmin Pilot before the Database Concierge Downloads page will populate.

How to Enable Database Concierge:

  1. Navigate to Home.
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Select Database Concierge.
  4. Enable Database Concierge.

Storage Requirements for Database Concierge Downloads:

  • Storage requirements can vary depending on the aircraft type, the variety of databases purchased, and whether terrain data and IFR/VFR charts is included in the download.
  • For instance, the average terrain database is 3.6 GB in size.  Adding this along with IFR/VFR charts and other databases, you can expect a size of 6 GB of space needed for the download.
  • General Recommendation: As a general guideline, it is recommended to allocate up to 10 GB in storage capacity for Database Concierge Downloads.

Notes:

  • The bottom of the Downloads page on Garmin Pilot will show a "Device Storage Capacity Info" bar.  This includes the storage space used, along with the storage space still available. 
  • Ensure adequate space is available on the device for all applicable charts to download.
