Using Existing Cables or Transducer With a New Marine Device

Reusing the existing Power cable

Depending on the power cable and device, it may be possible to use the existing power cable if it matches the pin configuration. Increasing technology brings changes and power demands of today’s Marine Products. If a previous power cable works, it may limit the device. Garmin® has implemented improvements to reduce or remove noise into our devices by making changes to the cabling. The best practice is installing the new power cable and transducer that came bundled with or designed for the new product.

Retrofitting the transducer to a new chartplotter

Previously most Garmin devices used a 6-pin port for the transducers. Garmin transitioned from 6-pin style to 4-pin or 8-pin, then added a 12-pin transducer for ClearVu™/SideVu™ support. In some situations, it's desired to use the existing transducer. For example, a high-powered thru-hull transducer may work better for specific types of fishing than the newer all-in-one transducers that provide traditional, ClearVu and SideVu. Garmin has adapter options for using the existing transducer with the newer chartplotter or sonar module. Check the new device accessory tab > Transducer accessories for adapter cables.
