Backing up, Restoring, or Transferring Saved Data on Garmin Automotive Devices

Garmin Express™ software allows you to back up and/or restore the locations saved in your device's routes and favorites or saved places. You can also use Garmin Express software to transfer this information to other automotive devices. See How Do I Install Garmin Express? for information on installing Garmin Express software.

See Importing and Exporting GPX Files on the Overlander for Overlander® GPS navigator instructions.

NOTES:

  • Routes/trips will only display on devices supporting multiple stop routing.

  • Routes/trips may not transfer from one device to another.

  • Categories will transfer to the new device.

  • Devices with Wi-Fi update capability must still be connected to Garmin Express to backup and transfer routes/trips or favorites/saved places.

  • Recently found locations are not backed up by default but can be selected and saved if backup is desired.

    • From Recent, select a location.

    • Select i icon information 2 > Save.  If Save is not present, the location has already been saved.

    • Accept the name or enter the desired name, and select Save or Done.

It is advised to transfer any backed up data to a new device before removing an old device from Garmin Express software.

First, data must be backed up before it can be restored or transferred to another device.
