Difference between Turning Off an Automotive Device and Activating Sleep/Standby/Suspend Mode
There are Two Ways the Screen on your Device can be Turned Off:
Sleep Mode:
Sleep mode allows you to quickly reacquire satellites and resume the use of the device.
You can set the device to go into Sleep mode after a designated time period.
Tapping the power button will fully power the device on again.
The battery will draw slightly more power than being fully turned off, but less than if the device was turned on.
The device will power off when the battery drains low in Sleep mode.
Sleep mode helps to conserve battery.
Turn the device fully off to save battery for extended periods of non-use.
Power Off:
Press and hold the power button for several seconds and tap Power off.
This will turn the device off completely.
It will require several seconds to reboot a device after it has been fully turned off.
This will shut down the device and best preserve its battery charge.
See your device's owner's manual for instructions to set the Sleep mode time or to Power off the device.
Some troubleshooting steps may advise rebooting the device. This means the device needs to be turned off using the Power off method, then turned back on.
