Garmin ActiveCaptain App is Not Showing Current Location/Position

The chart page in the ActiveCaptain app can track your location along downloaded charts. This feature is only available if there is a GPS source available.

ActiveCaptain GPS Sources

  • Internal GPS - iOS and Android devices with built in GPS receivers. iPads without cellular data typically do not have built in GPS

  • Chartplotter - ActiveCaptain can receive GPS when paired to a compatible chartplotter that is receiving GPS

  • Bluetooth GPS - The Garmin GLO can be used to add GPS to a smart device that does not have one built in

Why is ActiveCaptain not tracking my position?

  • Ensure that location services is turned on for ActiveCaptain (iOS)
    1. Open the iOS Settings App from the home screen of the device

    2. Select Privacy

    3. Select Location Services

    4. Select ActiveCaptain from the list of apps

    5. Choose Always or While Using the App

 
  • Ensure that location access has been enabled (Android)
    1. Open the Android device Settings

    2. Select Apps/Application Manager

    3. Select ActiveCaptain

    4. Select Permissions

    5. Turn Location On

 
  • Make sure the boat has not been manually placed somewhere else on the chart
    1. Open ActiveCaptain

    2. Sign In

    3. Select the Chart tab (1)

    4. Tap on the boat icon (2)

    5. Select the 3 Dots (3)

    6. Select Return (4)
