TR-1 Gold Autopilot's Battery Draining Fast

There could be a few reasons why the TR-1 Gold autopilot would drain the boat's batteries faster than normal.

The TR-1 Gold draws about 1-1.5 amps on average. The tuning of the autopilot and water conditions will also affect the autopilots current draw. In rougher seas, the autopilot may have to work harder to keep the boat in a straight line. This can reduce the amount of time the battery will last.

If the boat is being ran in rougher waters, reducing the Seastate Filter setting will help improve the life of the battery. The Seastate Filter is a setting that will adjust how the autopilot moves the motor to keep the boat moving in a straight line. The higher this setting is, the more responsive the motor will be when trying to keep the boat on a heading hold. Lowering this setting will cause the motor to not be turned as much and may cause the boat to move off the heading hold slightly in rougher waters, but will improve the life of the battery.

Please refer to the Owner's Manual for the TR-1 Gold autopilot for instructions on changing the Seastate Filter setting (code #1).
