Seasonally Closed Roads in the Winter

If your device has traffic service in a supported area, seasonal road closures will be sent to your device, enabling it to compute a detour if one exists.

Traffic Service Differences for North American Automotive Devices

For devices without traffic service, or outside of a traffic coverage area, seasonal closing information (usually winter) may be included in the map data. The Garmin routing algorithm will automatically avoid seasonally closed roads as attributed by our data provider unless there is no other way to complete the route. 

Since the start and end dates of seasonal closures are usually weather-dependent or based on criteria not contained in the map, there may be some times early in the winter and late in the spring when the device may generate incorrect routes. Pay attention to local signage and check with local traffic authorities.
