Using the Vault Storage with a Garmin Dash Cam Device

Vault is a secure online video storage available through a subscription. Vault is accessed through the dēzl™ app or Garmin Drive™ app.  

  • Saved videos, dash cam recorded incidents, and manually exported temporary videos are automatically uploaded and stored in the Vault with a paid subscription.
    • Saved videos include:
      • Video saved as an incident.
      • Video exported to your smartphone within the connected Garmin Drive app or dēzl app.
      • Video manually saved by button press on the device itself or within the connected Garmin Drive app or dēzl app.
      • Video that is verbally saved by Voice Control.
    • Exception:  Travelapse videos.
      • Although they are shown in the saved video list when Review Video is chosen in the Garmin Drive app, they are not automatically uploaded to Vault.
      • If an upload to Vault is desired, manually export the Travelapse video to your smartphone, and it will be uploaded to Vault as well.
        • Settings > Vault Access> Vault App Uploads > Exported Clips must be toggled on, which is the default.
    • Uploading occurs when the Garmin Dash Cam™ device is in range of a trusted Wi-Fi network (or LTE connection on the Garmin Dash Cam™ Live). 
    • Saved videos are stored securely in the online Vault and can be shared with others by sending a link and passcode. The link opens in the recipient's default browser.
  • Temporary / unsaved videos are not uploaded to Vault.
    • Depending on your Unsaved Videos choices in the dēzl™ app or Garmin Drive™ app:
      • They will be overwritten as the camera storage becomes full by default.
      • Or, if you choose, will be promptly deleted after three minutes or when the camera is powered off.

  • Effective March 4, 2025, a single Vault plan will cover all of your compatible devices under one subscription. 
  • Garmin Dash Cam™ Live uses a combination a cellular LTE / Vault subscription, sold separately.  Each Garmin Dash Cam Live requires its own subscription.

Activating the Vault:

Vault activation is offered in the initial setup/pairing in the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app. See steps below.

During Initial Setup:

1. Select Access Garmin Vault during setup

2. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter your network password if prompted

3. Tap the Password Saved message to acknowledge Wi-Fi setup

Activate the Vault at any Other Time:

1. Go to the Settings gear Settings Gear 1

2. Select your device from within the Vehicle

3. Tap on Finish Setup

4. Tap on Garmin Vault

5. Follow the prompts to set up Wi-Fi and the Vault


Upgrade the Vault in the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app: 


1. Open the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app with your connected dash cam, then select Vault

3. Verify the correct dash cam is selected

  • To change to a different dash cam, select Choose a Different Camera

4. Choose a plan by touching Select This Plan 

5. Place a checkmark in the box to select Automatic Renewal, then touch Accept & Continue

6. Follow the prompts to complete the subscription order.

Uploading to the Vault Using Wi-Fi:

The upload begins automatically when the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app acknowledges your paired phone and dash cam have entered a trusted Wi-Fi network.
  • Examples include home Wi-Fi, work Wi-Fi, or in-vehicle Wi-Fi.

  • A maximum of 11 Wi-Fi networks can be configured for use with the Vault.

  • Set up a Wi-Fi connection during Vault activation or see your device Owner's Manual for steps connecting to a Wi-Fi network

  • The Garmin Dash Cam Live has a built-in LTE connection feature that can be purchased for an always-on connection.

  • Temporary/Unsaved videos can be exported to your phone using the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app,  Once the dash cam device is connected to Wi-Fi (or LTE connection on the Garmin Dash Cam Live), the exported video will upload to the Vault.

    • Other Temporary/Unsaved videos will not upload to the Vault.

NOTE: On the Garmin Dash Cam Live with LTE, it may be necessary with some videos to connect to a trusted Wi-Fi network in these cases:


Verifying a Wi-Fi Connection in the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app:

1. Open the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app, then select Settings

  • Touch Finish Setup and then Camera Wi-Fi Setup on the dezl app

4. Available Wi-Fi network(s) will appear

  • Tap on your network if not already connected.

  • Enter the network password if prompted.

Viewing Vault Videos:

Once videos are uploaded to the Vault, you can view them on your smartphone within the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app 

  • You do not have to be actively connected to the dash cam to view videos that are stored in the Vault.

  • Video clips are saved in the Vault as long as the Vault is maintained.

  • There is no size limit to the amount of video.

2. Allow time for the Wi-Fi to connect and for the video upload. This process can take a little while.

  • Once the video is fully uploaded, select it for more options. 

More Options:

  • Play to review the video.
  • Save the video to your phone.
    • NOTE: In some cases the option to Save to Phone will be missing. To resolve this, connect the dash cam to a trusted Wi-Fi network. See the section above 'Uploading to the Vault Using Wi-Fi"
  • Securely Share the video.

Saving a Video to Your Phone:

Uploaded Vault videos can be saved to your phone.  

  • You do not have to be actively connected to the dash cam to save Vault videos to your phone.

1. Access Vault in the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app.

  • Allow time for the Wi-Fi to connect and for the videos to upload. This process can take a little while.

2. After selecting a video in the Vault, tap Save to Phone

NOTE: In some cases the option to Save to Phone will be missing. To resolve this, connect the dash cam to a trusted Wi-Fi network. See the section above 'Uploading to the Vault Using Wi-Fi"

3. The video will now be downloaded and saved to your phone.


Sharing a Secure Video from the Vault:

In the Vault, you can send a video in a secure link to anyone using your phones sharing methods.

  • You do not have to be actively connected to the dash cam to view and save videos that are stored in the Vault.

  • With the link and code, the recipient can view and download the video (about 30 seconds long) in a browser on their phone, tablet, or computer.

  • You can disable the secure link at anytime.

2. Touch Continue to send a secure link

3. Select a sharing method from your phone's app options to send the secure link to someone.

4. The recipient will receive a video share message with a link and passcode.

5. After entering the passcode, touch Submit

 

6. The video will now be able to be viewed and downloaded.


Disabling the Vault Link:

1. Go the the video in the Vault, then select Disable Link

2. Tap Continue

The link will now appear with the message it has been removed.


  


Managing the Vault Storage Time:

  • A single new Vault subscription will cover all of your compatible dash cameras under one subscription.
    • Monthly and Annual Vault subscriptions are available for compatible dash cams.
    • NOTE: Garmin Dash Cam Live has a Standard and Advanced LTE/Vault bundle option for an always-on connection and upgraded features.
  • View plan details, change plan, update billing, or cancellations are done on the Garmin website in the Subscription Portal.

1. Open the Vault in the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app

3. Tap Manage

Using the Vault Storage with Multiple Cameras Paired to the Garmin Drive app:

Touch Vault on the main screen of the Garmin Drive app to access all videos collected within the time frame of your Vault subscription you signed up for.

Multi Dash Cams Select Vault 

Videos from all dash cam devices with an activated Vault subscription will be displayed.

    • Videos will display which camera recorded the video.

    • Videos cannot be filtered by camera.
