Backing up and Restoring Data in the Garmin eLog App

You can restore backed up data from a USB storage device in the Garmin eLog™ app. This can be useful if you need to reinstall the Garmin eLog app, or if you need to install the app on a different device.

NOTE: The Garmin eLog app will back up data for the last six months.

Backing up Recorded Data on a USB Storage Device

You should back up regularly to help prevent data loss.

  • The USB storage device must be between 1-32 GB and formatted in FAT32.

  • The Garmin eLog App must be paired with the Garmin eLog™ adapter.

  • All profiles and data will be backed up.

1. Sign in to the Driver Profile in the Garmin eLog App

  • This can be also done from the Admin Profile.

 

2. Touch Settings

 

3. Touch Back Up Data

 

4. Insert a USB storage device into the USB port on the Garmin eLog adapter

  • The light ring on the adapter glows green and plays a tone when it is ready to back up data.

5. Touch Back Up to USB Device

 

6. The Garmin eLog App will begin backing up data to the USB Device

 

7. A "Data Backup Complete" message will appear when the backup is finished

 

Restoring Backed up Data to the Garmin eLog App

You can restore backed up data only while you are setting up the Garmin eLog App. The Restore from Backup option will be seen after pairing the Garmin eLog™ adapter with the Garmin eLog App.

1. Open the Garmin eLog App to start the setup process

2. Read and agree to the Terms of Use and touch Continue

3. Touch Next

 

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Garmin eLog adapter in the vehicle diagnostic port. Then touch Next.

 

5. Complete the pairing process. Then touch Restore from Backup.

 

6. Insert a USB storage device containing backup files into the USB port on the Garmin eLog adapter

  • The light ring on the adapter glows green and plays a tone when it is ready to restore data.

 

7. Select a backup file

 

8. Select Restore

 

8. The Garmin eLog App will begin restoring data from the backup

 

9. The profile log in screen will appear and data will be restored
