Activate an Update or Subscription with a Product Key/Voucher Code

Use the steps below to activate your Garmin Voucher Code or Product Key.

Activating a Map Download or Update

If you have purchased a onetime map update or a map update subscription from a local or online dealer, you may have received a Product Key/Voucher Code on a scratch-off card or via email. This Product Key/Voucher Code can be entered into Garmin Express™ software in order to activate it to your device. 

Activating the Download or Update
  1. Connect your device to a computer and open Garmin Express
    NOTE: If you do not already have Garmin Express installed, see - How Do I Install Garmin Express software?
  2. Follow the prompts to Add a Device to Garmin Express
  3. Click Tools & Content
  4. Click the Purchased tab
  5. Type the Product Key/Voucher Code in the Enter Voucher Code Field
  6. Click Redeem
  7. Click Select
  8. Click Confirm
  9. Sign into your Garmin Account

The update will now be activated on your device.

Installing the Download or Update
  1. Select the device you intend to update.  When the device is selected, Garmin Express software will display the available updates
  2. Click Install or Install All to install all available updates
    • If more than one update is available, you may also click on View Details to view the list of updates available to install.
    • Clicking on Install next to a software update will install all available software updates onto the device.
  3. Garmin Express may then prompt you to agree to the update terms and conditions before beginning the update. Click Accept to proceed

Once the update starts, Garmin Express will display the current progress, including the percentage completed, estimated time remaining, and download speed (rate).


Activating a BirdsEye Subscription Card

The BirdsEye Subscription scratch-off card has a Product Key on the back. This Product Key can be entered into Garmin Express software in order to activate the subscription to your Garmin handheld. 

  1. Connect your handheld to a computer and open Garmin Express program
    NOTE: If you do not already have Garmin Express installed, see - How Do I Install Garmin Express?
  2. Follow the prompts to Add a Device to Garmin Express
  3. Click Tools & Content
  4. Click the Purchased tab
  5. Type the Product Key/Voucher Code in the Enter Voucher Code Field
  6. Click Redeem
  7. Click Select
  8. Click Confirm
  9. Sign into your Garmin Account
  10. Once activated select the link to install or Launch Garmin BaseCamp™ software
