Downloading Satellite Imagery on the Alpha 200 Plus or Alpha 300 Series with BaseCamp
Different Garmin products offer different kinds of imagery in various parts of the world. The Alpha® 200 Plus and Alpha® 300 series dog tracking handhelds come with the ability to download Satellite Imagery.
Activating your Satellite Imagery
- Connect your Alpha 200 Plus or Alpha 300 handheld to your Windows computer.
- Register your Alpha through Garmin Express™ software
- Open the BaseCamp™ program
- Select BirdsEye in the toolbar.
- Select Download BirdsEye Imagery
- Select Alpha 200 Plus, Alpha 300, or Alpha 300i
- Select Next
- From the drop down scroll to the bottom and select Satellite Imagery
Your Alpha handheld will now be active and allow you to download new images, or transfer previously downloaded imagery to your handheld.
IMPORTANT: This is for Windows only. You cannot do this on an Apple Based Computer.
Downloading BirdsEye Images for Windows
The tools listed below will help you when selecting the right area to download.
- Pan tool
: Allows you to drag the map to pan to a different area of the map.
- Zoom tool
: Click on the map or drag a rectangle over the map to zoom into that area.
- Box tool
: Drag a rectangle around the desired area you wish to download.
- Free-form tool
: Draw a free-form shape around the desired area you wish to download.
- Show on Map tool
: Moves the map view to the currently selected area on the map.
- Connect your Alpha handheld to your computer.
- Open the BaseCamp™ program
- Select BirdsEye in the menu bar.
- Select Download BirdsEye Imagery...
- Select Alpha 200 Plus, Alpha 300, or Alpha 300i
- Select Satellite Imagery
- Use the wizard tools to select the area you wish to download and select Download.
- On this page, you can change the name of the imagery and select a detail level.
- If the download size limit is exceeded, resize the area for download.
- The download will now begin.
- Sending imagery to the Garmin device: Check the box next to Copy imagery to device after download.
- Sending Imagery to an SD Card: To send imagery to an SD card, see - Transferring BirdsEye Imagery to an External Memory Card.
- Select Finish.
The BirdsEye imagery will continue to download in the background. You can continue to use BaseCamp™ during this time.
Transferring Previous Images
You are able to transfer previously downloaded BirdsEye Life Time Subscription images (now called Satellite Imagery) from the Alpha 200 or Alpha 200i handheld to your Alpha 200 Plus, Alpha 300, or Alpha 300i handheld.
- Connect your Alpha handheld to your computer.
- Open the BaseCamp™ program
- Select a previously downloaded image you would like to transfer.
- Right Click on the image
- Select Send To
- Select Alpha 300, you can send it to the internal storage or an SD card if you have one installed.
- The image will begin to transfer. If the image is able to be transferred than it was a Satellite Image.
- If BaseCamp™ gives you an error advising you need a subscription the image was originally downloaded as a BirdsEye Subscription V2 image and you will not be able to transfer this image.
