Getting Started With The Alpha 200 Plus Dog Tracking and Training Handheld

Before heading out with the Alpha® 200 Plus dog tracking system, it is recommended that it is set up and ready to use. The following simple guide has several suggestions to get started.

Charge the Handheld and Collars

Make sure both the handheld and the collar(s) are fully charged. Products containing Lithium-Ion batteries are purposely shipped with less than a full charge.

Charging the Alpha 200 Plus Handheld

  • The battery must be installed in the handheld to charge.

  • Charging will take 3-4 hours

  • Charge the device at room temperature

Charging the Collars

  • Solid red LED indicates the collar is charging

  • Solid green LED indicates the collar is fully charged

Pairing Your Collars

After the system is fully charged you will add the collar(s) to the handheld.

Pairing Wirelessly

To pair wirelessly, the collar should be within close proximity (approx. 10 feet) to the handheld and away from sources of interference.

  1. Ensure the removable antenna is installed on the Alpha 200 Plus handheld.
    • You should not use the handheld for dog tracking purposes without the VHF antenna installed.
  2. Power on the handheld.
  3. Put the dog collar in pairing mode. For steps, choose your collar model below.
    • Starting the pairing process is times-sensitive, it is best to read and understand the steps first before attempting so you know what to expect.

      TT15, TT15 Mini, T5, or T5 Mini Collars

      1. Start with the dog collar powered off.
      2. To enter pairing mode, press and hold the power button on the collar until it emits two beeps.
      3. Release the power button immediately after hearing the two beeps.
The status LED flashes rapidly in green when it is ready to pair.

      1. Press and hold the power button on the collar until it emits a series of two beeps.
      2. Release the power button immediately after hearing the two beeps.
NOTE: If the button is held too long after the beeps, the collar will exit pairing mode.

The status LED flashes rapidly in green when it is ready to pair.

      1. Press and hold he power button on the collar until it emits two beeps.

Using Track or Control Codes

Dog collars can be paired to an Alpha 300 handheld using track and control codes if the collar has already been paired to a different handheld. Track codes allow the Alpha 300 handheld to track the collar; Control codes allow the handheld to both track and use training functions of the collar.

  1. Power on the Alpha 300 handheld.
  2. Select Dog List.
  3. Select Add Dog.
  4. Select Enter Track or Control Code.
  5. Enter the track or control code for the collar.
NOTE: For steps to find the share code for the collar, reference "Locating Track and Control Codes" below.
  6. Select Alpha 200i Check Mark
  7. Use the keyboard to enter a dog name.
  8. Select Alpha 200i Check Mark

Once the newly shared dog collar device is turned on and within range of the new handheld, allow up to 1 minute of actively tracking that dog in range before the training commands are automatically added and the new collar is fully connected and trackable. If the handheld is turned off before this occurs, you may have to remove the newly shared dog and redo these steps.

Adding Contacts

With Alpha handheld tracking devices, you can track other Alpha handhelds within range on the map so you know where they are at all times. You can also send messages to your contacts. These features are called Contact Tracking and Contact Messaging. The communication signal transmits over MURS (Multi-Use Radio System). There is no charge to use Contact Tracking and Contact Messaging.

An Alpha handheld device can track up to 20 other devices at a time (including compatible dog collar devices and other Alpha handheld devices). The Alpha series handhelds have a contact tracking range similar to the dog tracking collars. The expected range for contact tracking is up to 9 miles in optimal conditions.
