Map Display Settings in the Garmin Explore App
The Garmin Explore™ app offers many options to adjust what is displaying on the map page, how maps are downloaded, and how your location is displayed on the map. You can find a list of available options and how to customize them below.
Changing Map Settings in the Garmin Explore App
Open the Garmin Explore app.

Touch the desired option to toggle it on or off or adjust its value.
If the toggle is set to
, the item is visible on the map.
If the toggle is set to
, the item is hidden on the map.
Current Activity - Toggle on/off for displaying the activity (electronic breadcrumb trail) that is currently being recorded.
Tracks On Map - Choose a value. For example, if 5 minutes is selected, only the last 5 minutes of the current activity recording will be displayed. Current Activity also needs to be toggled on to see the current activity recording.
Messages - Toggle on/off for displaying message locations sent from or received by an inReach® device.
Data Fields - Toggle on/off for displaying the heading, elevation, and speed data fields at the bottom of the map page.
Scale Bar - Toggle on/off for displaying the zoom scale bar on the left side of the map page.
Offline Maps Only - Toggle on/off for the use of offline maps. When toggled on, the app will only use offline maps that have been downloaded for drawing, routing, searching, and elevation.
Auto Downloads - Toggle on/off for automatically downloading maps when you pan to a new area on the map without offline maps.
Download Over - Choose between Wi-Fi Only or Wi-Fi or Cellular for automatic map downloads.
Prefer Device Location - Toggle on/off for prioritizing location from your connected Garmin® device over your phone or tablet's location services while an activity is in progress on your Garmin device.
