XMap 7 Fails to Install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is required by XMap® 7 desktop software to create databases for GIS layer storage. XMap 7 software installs Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express R1 as a prerequisite. If this installation fails, you will not be able to create a database or import any GIS file types, such as ESRI shapefiles.
Note: XMap Software has been discontinued. Support is now provided through documentation in the Support Center. XMap data format has not.
If Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express is not listed on your computer, or if you continually receive error messages when attempting to install it, try the following instructions:
Uninstall SQL Server 2008 Components
1. Select StartControl Panel
Programs and Features
Uninstall a Program (Add/Remove Programs in Windows XP).
2. Select the XMap 7 instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and click Uninstall/Change (Remove in XP).
3. Click Remove.
4. Select the XMAP7 instance and click Next to uninstall.
Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express R2

5. Accept the license terms and click Next.
6. Install the setup support files.

8. Change the instance name to XMAP7.
9. Set the Startup Type to Automatic for both the SQL Server Database Engine and the SQL Server Browser.
Note: Depending upon your user account privileges, you may not be able to install using the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK account. If you receive an error message, try NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM or NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL
10. Set the Authentication Mode to Mixed Mode, choose a password, and add the user who you want to be the SQL Server administrator.
11. Choose your error reporting settings.
12. The installation will begin. You will be notified if the installation completed successfully. Select close when you have finished reviewing the installation results.
Note: If the installation fails, browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log and find theSummary.txt. Please email this file to tech@delorme.com so we can troubleshoot the issue further.
