Updating a Vieo™ Series Infotainment System

Updating a Vieo™ series infotainment system is an important part of device maintenance. Updating is done primarily by the display via a Wi-Fi connection, though Garmin Express™ can be used as well.


To update via Wi-Fi:


To update a Vieo series infotainment device via Wi-Fi, the display needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi network. A private home network is ideal as shared, public, or work networks may have slow connections or security measures that can prevent the device from checking for or downloading updates. To connect the Vieo display to a Wi-Fi network:

  1. From the home screen, select Android Apps Apps

  2. Select Tools

  3. Scroll down and select System Updates

  4. Select Access Wi-Fi Settings

  5. Select a Wi-Fi network from the list

  6. Enter the network password if necessary

    Checking for system updates will appear while the device searches for available map and software updates. This should take no more than a few minutes.

  7. Select Download to download all available updates, or select Map or Software to download just one

  8. Select OK to proceed with the download

    The device will begin Downloading updates and could take anywhere from 15 minutes for software updates to several hours for map updates

  9. When the download completes, connect the display to the dock and select Restart and Install

  10. Read Important Installation Notes carefully and select OK

    The device will begin installing updates

To update with Garmin Express™:


Garmin Express will need to be installed on a personal computer with a Windows or MacOS operating system. For installation instructions, see  How Do I Install Garmin Express?

When updating a Vieo series device with Garmin Express on a Mac computer, the device will not appear as a drive and the internal files cannot be accessed without the Android File Transfer App. Additionally, the Time Machine application must not be running. If the Vieo is recognized by Garmin Express but won't install the updates, check that the Time Machine application is not running on the computer. See the macOS User Guide for instructions on disabling Time Machine.

Note: Garmin does not make or support the Android File Transfer or Time Machine applications
