My Activity is Not Showing on the Garmin Segment Leaderboard

Our Garmin Connect™ platform has a Segments feature that requires certain guidelines to be followed before your activity is considered for the leaderboard. These guidelines are designed to protect everyone in the Garmin Connect community from dangerous or unwinnable segments. If your activity misses even one of the guidelines, it will not be registered as crossing the segment and will not show on the leaderboard.

While the exact guidelines may change, there are some general tips to keep in mind.

Requirements and Tips for Recording Segments

NOTE: Cyclocross and BMX cycling activities will not be matched to segments.

  • Activity must pass close to segment start.

  • Activity must pass close to segment end.

  • Do not deviate from exact path of segment.

  • Stay on same side of road as segment (being on wrong side of a road can cause your activity to miss guideline).

  • Activities must be public (see Privacy Settings mentioned below).

  • Activity must not cross into any of your designated Privacy Zones (see Understanding Privacy Zones in Garmin Connect).

  • To get an accurate ranking in leaderboards filtered by gender or age, be sure to fill in the appropriate information in your User Settings under Personal Information.

  • Activities must have been recorded no more than one year prior to the segment’s creation.

  • You must opt in to participate in segments:

    1. From a web browser, sign into your Garmin Connect account.

    2. Select Profile & Account (User/Default image in top right).

    3. Select Account Settings.

    4. Select Privacy Settings.

    5. Toggle Segments on.

Additionally, the segment is based off the original activity's GPS. If your device, or the device that was originally used to create the segment, is suffering from GPS inaccuracy it can cause the segment to not register properly. While Garmin Connect will automatically adjust for some of this inaccuracy, it is still possible that an activity will not be matched to a segment correctly.

Finally, make sure your activity privacy is set accordingly, so your activities will show on the segment leaderboards. For example, your activity will not show up on a leaderboard with Everyone if your privacy is set to My Connections (see Garmin Connect Privacy).

Following these tips will ensure you are recognized on the segment leaderboards. For more information about course segments and how to create them, see Related Content
