"Invalid Satellite File" Error Message on a Garmin Handheld

Like many of our other products that require an unlock code, satellite imagery functions in the same way. If a file associated with a different device and therefore different unlock code is copied to a new device, the Invalid Satellite File error will appear. This error indicates that the satellite imagery file on the card or loaded to the device is not unlocked to that device.

A file copied from one SD card to another can also result in an Invalid JNX or Invalid Satellite File error.

NOTE: If you are receiving this message on your device after installing a HuntView map, updating your device software or redownloading the map should resolve the problem. For instructions, see Related .

Removing Invalid Satellite Files

1. Check the Map Manager List on the Handheld

  1. From the main menu, select Map Manager.

  2. Select Outdoor Maps+.

  3. Make note of the files listed here, or take a picture. You may need to scroll down to see the full list if you have several satellite images.

If the issue persists, satellite imagery may need to be re-downloaded, as your current image(s) may be corrupted.

Transferring Satellite Imagery to an Additional Device

If you would like to use the same satellite imagery with multiple compatible devices, each device will need its own subscription. In order to use the same image on multiple devices, you need to use BaseCamp™ software to transfer these images to each individual device. The following steps are the correct process for transferring these files to an additional device.

  1. Connect the device to your computer. (Your device appears in the device list).

  2. Right-click the downloaded imagery file, and select Send To.

    • If using Mac, hold Control on your keyboard and click.

    • Imagery files are marked with BirdsEye Icon.
  3. Select a folder on your device or memory card, and select OK.

A progress bar indicates the progress of the data transfer. Once the progress bar is gone, and a check mark appears on the folder, the transfer is complete.

If the device displays an Invalid JNX or Invalid Satellite File error after following the correct process to transfer satellite imagery files, follow the steps above to remove the invalid file(s).
