My Index Scale Shows a Wrench and Bluetooth Icon

This FAQ is designed to fix the following symptoms with your Garmin Index™ Smart Scale:

  • Scale displays a solid wrench and Bluetooth icon as shown below

  • Scale will also not connect to the Garmin Connect™ app

NOTE: If you are attempting to set up the Index Smart Scale to a second phone and the first phone is present, turn off Bluetooth from the first phone before proceeding with the pairing process.  Failure to follow this step will result in the scale being locked onto the Bluetooth signal of the first phone. 

To solve this issue try each step below, progressing to the next step only if the issue remains unresolved.

  1. Close the Garmin Connect app from running in the background on your phone.

  2. Sign out and back into the Garmin Connect app. This will clear any previously paired device in the app. Wallets will be deleted from any paired Garmin Pay watches.

    2. Once you are signed out, check to confirm that the Bluetooth icon on the scale is now flashing.

    3. Sign back in and proceed with pairing previously connected devices to the app.

Following the above steps should result in the display of the scale showing a wrench icon along with flashing Bluetooth, ANT, and Wi-Fi icons. This will confirm the scale has returned to set up mode. Connect the scale back to the  Garmin Connect app:

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right).

  3. Select Garmin Devices.

  4. Select Add Device.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.

The above steps will also need to be completed for any other previously paired Garmin devices.
