How to Locate the Serial Number or Unit ID on an Automotive Device

Every Garmin automotive device will have a unique serial number and Unit ID number to identify it. The serial number is a combination of 8 to 9 letters or numbers, without spaces or dashes, externally printed on the device.

Serial Number

The location of the serial number varies by model.

Check the Following Possible Locations:

On the Back or Bottom of the Device:

 

If There is a Mounting Bracket on the Back of the Device, Remove it to Locate the Serial Number. See the Video Below for an Example of This:

Under the Magnetic Mounting Bracket:

Under the Battery Door or Inside the Battery Compartment:

 

On Devices with a Flip-Up Antenna on the Back, it is Under the Antenna:

 

On Garmin Dash Cam™ and Garmin Speak™ Devices, it is on the Bottom or Side of the Device:

 

On the Garmin PowerSwitch™, it is on the Side of the Device Under the Front Cover:

On dēzl™ Headsets, it is on the Inside of the Headset Band When it's Fully Extended:

 


On the Original Box, it is Printed Below one of the Barcodes:

In the Garmin Express Software for Mac or Windows Computers (After the Device has been Added):

  1. Open the Garmin Express software.
    • The device can be connected or disconnected.
  2. Select your device on the Home screen.
  3. Select Tools & Content.
  4. The Serial Number is shown in the information displayed.

Unit ID

The Unit ID is a 10-digit number found internally when viewing the system information on the device. This can typically be found in the Device Settings on the About screen. There are a few common ways to access the Unit ID on Automotive devices.


To Find the Unit ID on Most Automotive GPS Devices:

  1. Select Settings
  2. Select Device or About Device
  3. Select About or Garmin Device Information

To Find the Unit ID on Most Dash Cam Devices:

  1. Select Settings
  2. Select System
  3. Select About

To Find the Unit ID of a device added to the dēzl™ App or Garmin Drive™ App:

  1. Open the dēzl app or Garmin Drive app
  2. Touch Settings (gear icon) in the top right
  3. Select your device
  4. If the Serial Number or Unit ID is not displayed, touch Finish Setup
  5. Touch Product Registration
