Phase of Flight Tilt/Range Settings

The chart shown below (Fig. 19) is supplied for quick reference purposes. Each of the phase of flight setups have more descriptive text and reference images on the following pages. We encourage you to review each of those phase of flight specific pages to develop an understanding of why these particular settings are recommended, and to develop a mental picture of how the radar screen should appear when using those settings.

These should only be considered as initial settings, and may be adjusted to meet the needs of your particular flight. If strong returns are depicted they should be investigated using tilt adjustments, range changes, and gain reductions, as well as by making use of Vertical Mode, and cross-checking return locations with the Navigation Map display and SXM Weather displays.


KEY POINT: These are recommended initial settings only. Adjust tilt and range as needed to analyze precipitation returns.
