GDL 88 Satisfies the FAA's 2020 Mandate Below FL180
The GDL® 88 is a Dual-Link Universal Access Transceiver (UAT). It transmits your ADS-B position data on the UAT frequency (978 MHz) and also receives ADS-B data on both the UAT frequency and the (ES) Extended Squitter (1090 MHz) frequency.
For aircraft flying below 18,000 (FL180), the GDL 88's UAT (978 MHz) data complies with the FAA's year 2020 mandate.
For aircraft flying at and above FL180, the FAA's year 2020 mandate requires aircraft to have ADS-B Out performance capabilities using the Extended Squitter 1090 MHz. The GDL 88 does not comply for altitudes at and above FL180. A transponder-based ADS-B solution (like the Garmin GTX™ 345) will be required for these FL180+ altitudes.
