How to Reset the Marine Handheld Devices
There are a few instances in which it is necessary to perform a full reset on a Garmin® Marine handheld, including the following:
Not receiving a satellite signal
Restoring the factory default settings
Not functioning properly
Use the steps below to reset the following device series
GPSMAP® 78 handheld
GPSMAP® 79 handheld
GPSMAP® 86 handheld
Before Resetting
Performing a full reset can cause user data loss. User data is waypoints, routes, tracks, activities and geocaches.
It is recommended to back up important data with BaseCamp™ software before resetting. For steps, see Related.

Performing a Reset
Ensure the device is powered off
Press and hold both Page and Enter simultaneously
Power on the device while continuing to press both buttons
Release the Power button when Garmin appears on the screen
Release the other buttons once the Do you really want to erase all user data? or This will remove all saved user data message appears
Arrow to Erase or Yes
Press Enter
The device is now reset. Take the device outside in a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to refresh satellite data.
