Garmin DriveCam™ 76 Not Recording or Missing Video

Follow the steps below if saved or unsaved footage cannot be found on your Garmin DriveCam™ 76 device, the Garmin Drive app, or the device's SD card:

  1. Ensure the device is recording video
  2. Check Dash Cam settings
  3. Check SD card compatibility
  4. Ensure the device and Garmin Drive app are up to date
  5. Format or replace the SD card

Ensure the Device is Recording Video

Make sure that the SD card is inserted all the way into the video slot on the back of the Garmin DriveCam™ 76. There are two SD slot on the back side of the device. The SD card slot on the left is for map data, the SD card slot on the right is for video. If no SD card is inserted into the video slot, the device will not record footage. See Installing the Dash Camera Memory Card for more information.

NOTE: The Garmin DriveCam™ 76 will show a not recording, or paused icon on the main menu if it is not recording video. Press the paused, or the not recording icon, then press the  record icon to begin recording.

NOTE: The Garmin DriveCam™ 76 cannot record video while the Gallery app is open on the device. 

The Garmin DriveCam™ 76 cannot record video when connected to USB only or on a computer. Use the vehicle power adapter provided with your device to use the camera.


Check Dash Cam Settings

  • If the Garmin DriveCam™ 76 is not recording when starting the device, Record on Startup may be disabled.
  • If the Garmin DriveCam™ 76 is not saving video of events (e.g. collisions or sudden stops), Incident Detection may be disabled.

To Check the Dash Cam Settings on the Garmin DriveCam™ 76:

1. Touch Settings

2. Touch the down arrow

3. Touch Dash Cam

4. If Record on Startup is unchecked, touch it to add a  checkmark

5. Touch Incident Detection

6. Select your preferred incident detection sensitivity, then select Save

NOTE: Selecting Off will disable the dash cam from detecting and saving any incident or impact

The Garmin DriveCam™ 76 device will now automatically save video when it detects an event.


Check SD Card Compatibility

  • The Garmin DriveCam™ 76 device may not be able to record footage onto incompatible SD cards. The Garmin DriveCam™ 76 requires a Class 10 microSD card and will accept sizes up to 256 GB.  See SD Memory Card Sizes for Automotive Devices

Ensure the Device and Drive app are up to Date

  • The software of your Garmin DriveCam™ 76 device can be updated using Wi-Fi. See Wireless Map and Software Update Instructions for instructions.
  • Search for the Garmin Drive app in the App Store or Google Play Store to see if updates are available for the app.

Format or Replace the SD Card

Contact Product Support if the Garmin DriveCam™ 76 continues to fail to record any video.
