Installing Software Updates to Outdoor Handhelds

Garmin often releases updates to improve performance, correct operational issues or add new features. To update your Garmin's software either Garmin Express or WebUpdater will need to be downloaded and installed.

To Update Your Garmin Device with Garmin Express:

1.Before updating, you will need to have Garmin Express installed on your computer. If you already have Express installed, skip this step.

  

2.Connect your Garmin to the computer with the appropriate USB cable.

Launch Garmin ExpressGarmin Express will be launched during the installation process. If you already had Garmin Express installed, launch Garmin Express.

Windows: Either double-click the express icon in the system tray (next to your time), double-click the shortcut on the desktop, or search for Garmin Express in your Start menu.
Mac: Garmin Express can be found in the Applications folder in Finder.

4.Select the desired Garmin product or click Add a Device and follow the on-screen prompts if your device isn't listed. 
5.Garmin Express will display the available updates. Click Install or Install All to install all of the updates.

6.Review the Terms and Conditions and click Accept to proceed.   
7.Review the important notes before beginning to ensure the software update installs smoothly. Click Continue.
8.

Once the update starts, Garmin Express will display the current progress.

  • Hint: Hover your mouse cursor over the progress bar to get detailed progress information.

You will see an Updates complete! message when the update is finished.

 10. 

Once complete, disconnect your Garmin from the computer and power it on to make sure the software updates installed successfully.

To Update Your Garmin with WebUpdater on Windows:

1.Before updating, you will need to have WebUpdater installed on your computer. If you already have WebUpdater installed, skip this step.

Connect your Garmin to the computer with the appropriate USB cable.

Note: Avoid using USB 3.0 ports when updating a collar.

Launch WebUpdater

WebUpdater will be launched during the installation process. If you already had WebUpdater installed, launch WebUpdater.

Windows: Either double-click the WebUpdater shortcut on the desktop (if available), or search for WebUpdater in your Start menu.

4.Select the desired Garmin product from the drop-down menu or click Find Device if your device isn't listed. Click Next. 
5.WebUpdater will display the available updates. Click Next through the following pages to review the software release notes, the software change history, and the license agreement.

6.Check the box to agree to the license agreement terms and then click Next to begin the update process.
7. Once the update starts, WebUpdater will display the current progress.

After installing the main update file, WebUpdater will prompt you to check for any additional updates. Click Next.

9.

If additional updates are available click the checkbox next to the desired updates and click Next to install them. Once complete, click Finish

 

If no additional updates were found click Finish

Once complete, disconnect your Garmin from the computer and power it on to make sure the software updates installed successfully.

Launch WebUpdater

WebUpdater will be launched during the installation process. If you already had WebUpdater installed, launch WebUpdater.

4.Select the desired Garmin product from the drop-down menu or click Find Device if your device isn't listed. Click Update. 
5.Review the license agreement and click Agree to begin the update process.

6.Once the update starts, WebUpdater will display the current progress.
7. 

Once complete, WebUpdater will display a message that your Garmin has the latest software.

If additional updates are available continue to the steps below. If no additional updates were found, the update process is complete.

8.Select any desired additional updates and click Update
9.Review the license agreement and click Agree to continue.

10.Wait while the additional updates install.

 

 

11.Once the additional updates are finished, click Done.

 12. 

Once complete, disconnect your Garmin from the computer and power it on to make sure the software updates installed successfully.
