SD Memory Card Sizes for Automotive Devices

An automotive device can use the minimum/maximum (max) card size listed below under the device series.

Important Information:

A device may draw maps more slowly when using a card with a larger capacity if there are too many files and/or large files on the card.
A microSD card with at least 4 GB of space must be used when updating the maps on a device.

Garmin Express™ will only install a map update to a memory card if there is not enough space on the internal storage of the device.
- Maps cannot be moved from the device to a memory card manually.
Instructions on where to insert the microSD card can be found in your Device's Owner's Manual.
- Some devices have 2 microSD card slots: one for map data and one for dash cam storage.
microSD cards can be purchased from Garmin or other retailers. Garmin offers the following microSD cards for purchase. 8 GB microSD Class 4 Card with SD Adapter, 16 GB microSD Class 10 Card with SD Adapter
NOTE: Garmin Dash Cam devices require a Class 10 card.
- - The card may need to be formatted to work in the device.
  - For instructions, go to the Support Center and enter the product name or the serial number of your device.
    - Once your device is selected enter “Formatting Camera SD Card" ” in the search field.

Overlander

64 GB cards and larger will often be labeled SDXC (Extended Capacity). SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards must be formatted as FAT32. See Overlander - Formatting the Memory Card. If you are using a 64 GB card or higher and your computer does not allow you to format it as FAT32, it is recommended to use a 32 GB card instead. See Using a 64 GB microSD/SD Memory Card or Larger.

The zūmo XT and zūmo XT2 may not boot properly if there is a 64 GB card in the device and it hasn't been formatted. Put the memory card in the device after it is powered on and it will give a prompt to format it.
